There is less than 30 square centimetres of green space for each resident of Cairo. Now a new park reclaimed from a former dump for rubble has been established in an area of the city ravaged by neglect and natural disaster. The park has been accompanied by an investment in the cultural capital of the area, creating more job opportunities, and in the historical fabric of the city. A welcome space for Cairo, but the planners have struggled to involve the people of the local neighbourhood.
