Liberia, West Africa. Over half of the population fled their homes in terror during its long and bloody civil war. After fourteen years of anarchy, the international community arrived in force in an attempt to stabilise the country, and are demobilising some 45,000 former fighters, including many children, in a short space of time. The UN peacekeeping force in Liberia is the largest – at the time of filming – in the world. This Life programme, with exclusive access to Liberia’s huge disarmament and demobilisation programme, reports on the country’s efforts to put war behind them, and find a way forward to a lasting peace.
