The Ecomove Festival in Berlin – it claims to be the premier green film festival – bigger and better than all the rest. On screen first in Berlin last November, filmmakers from widely different backgrounds were thrown together for Ecomove. From documentary to fiction, shorts to features, the nearly 100 films on show were said to be the best of the international global ‘Eco’ output. But this was very much a test case for all involved. Would corporate backing unduly influence the judging process and compromise the integrity of the event – or prove an invaluable aid in getting greater exposure for ‘green’ films? Worth asking as the second festival is timed to coincide with the next earth summit taking place in Johannesburg this Autumn.
