Witness | Meltdown: Nepal

Meltdown Nepal tells the story of Norbu Sherpa, a former Buddhist monk turned trekking guide. Norbu has been a mountain guide in the mountainous Kumbu regions of Northern Nepal for over two decades, and has climbed Everest three times. But now melting ice poses a great threat to Norbu’s village, and the whole area. Estimates suggest that 50 of Nepal’s 2000 glacial lakes are at imminent risk of flooding. Says Norbu, “The bigger nations must think about us living in the mountains, otherwise we’ll be living in fear. Either we’ll have to move, or they’ll have to start to take responsibility.”
