It is estimated that over 50% of world’s tropical forests have been lost or degraded over the last 20 years. But are they gone forever or is it possible to recreate a complex ecosystem like a rainforest? On the Philippine island of Leyte local people are involved in an experiment to do just that. Leyte’s natural tropical forest was cleared for coconut plantations. But as the plantations have become uneconomic, a German funded project is the start of the plan to recreate a natural tropical forest.
