Sulaiman Sesay, Gardener - Sierra Leone
Africa Calling transports you into the realities of everyday life in Africa. Offering insights into the lives of ordinary African citizens, they are highly visual and diverse examples of life in today’s Africa.
Sulaiman is twenty years old and works as a gardener. His youngest brother, six-year-old Abu, often helps him out. Sulaiman and Abu both lost limbs during the recent civil war. Sulaiman describes how the rebel soldiers chopped off his hand, and how they cut off Abu’s leg when he was a baby, leaving him for dead in the bushes. Sulaiman says Africa needs roads, schools and hospitals, not more guns.
