In November the friends of tve organised a private luncheon and lecture 'From Mayfair to Mecca' at the Residence of HE The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, the Honourable Mr Mehmet Yiget Alpogan GCVO and Madame Alpogan. Miranda Taylor, Travel Journalist gave a fascinating lecture on the aristocratic and adventurous Lady Evelyn Cobbold, the first British born woman to make the pilgrimage to Mecca in 1933. Guest enjoyed a Turkish feast and auction whilst being enthralled by the tales of Lady Evelyn's conversion to Islam and intrepid travels.
